Jul. 20th, 2009 02:45 pmI, uh. Haven't read many books the last couple weeks - it's been fanfic and video games and comics every spare moment.
Currently Reading:
Perdido Street Station by China MiƩville
Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters
What the Butler Saw: Two Hundred and Fifty Years of the Servant Problem by E. S. Turner
Finished Reading:
Dull Boy by Sarah Cross
To Read Pile:
Fire Logic by Laurie J. Marks (reread)
Speaking of comics,
Power Girl #1: Picked this up on a whim and like it - I have no idea what's going on, but the art's nice, the writing's tight, and there are some great visual moments. I like Peej as a character (when she gets to *be* a character and not a walking set of boobs), it'll be interesting to see where this goes.
Captain Britain and M13 #9-13: I... am really not digging this vampire thing, at all. And I don't know if it's because I'm not familiar with the various backgrounds, but the writing seems rushed, chaotic, and no one has a distinctive voice. I started reading this for Faiza (I have 1-13, now) and I'll keep reading this for Faiza, but I'm not enjoying itand you can't make me.
Blue Beetle #34-36: So I hadn't actually read the last three issues of Blue Beetle (missed #34 and also in denial about the cancellation) and, well. The end is rushed, I was expecting that. The arc's just not as strong as Roger's stint, I was expecting that, too. Most importantly, and this I was *not* expecting, holy shit but they fridged Nadia. I mean, totally needless female death to create drama and motivation for the male characters? Followed by a one panel look at her funeral ("not many people showed up, I guess no one really knew here") and then *nothing*? NOT ON, STURGES, NOT ON AT ALL. Way to taint my favorite series.
Booster Gold #21: Um. I *own* most of the current Booster Gold run, but I'm avoiding actually *reading* it. The writing's not doing much for me and the whole Ted thing is still kinda raw, you know? I did read the Blue Beetle mini at the back, though, which mostly seems to consist of Brenda and Paco having really cliche couple's issues. Also, there are robots.
