Hikaru no Go Doujinshi Spectacular

Doujinshi! It's such sweet, sweet crack (except when it's hot crack, or back-slowly-away-from-the-book crack) and I... have a lot. Especially for HikaGo, so. In honor of HikaGo day, I bring you inside looks at some of my favorites. Inside photos are all photo-photos - I don't like bending spines to scan, sorry! They're a little shaky, but I think they turned out okay.
To the books!

Title: Summer Children
Circle/Artist: Rin-Low (website)
Pairing/Rating: Hikaru/Akira
Page Count: 46
Year: 2004
'Summer Children' starts out with a short story at the beach, where Isumi mistakenly(?) brings along his middle school pair of swim trunks. But they still fit, if he tears them into a lacy g-string! And then he has a shojo moment with Waya, I don't even know.
Followed by a 4koma where Hikaru finds the DeathNote, can't read the English(?), and tosses it into the trash.
Another 4koma and another short brings us to a fourth short, where young!Ogata keeps wee!Akira entertained while visiting the Touya household. Adorable.
The main story finds Hikaru, Akira, and Kiyoharu chilling at... Akira's house (I think - he's the one putting out the futons) one fine summer's night. There's go playing (of course), where Hikaru sits too close to Kiyoharu and also smiles, making Akira jealous. Then they go outside and play with fireworks and Hikaru burns his thumb with a lighter (way to stand around with a lit lighter, boyo), which Akira promptly sticks in his mouth.

Kiyoharu notices the homoerotic goingons (of course, I mean, he's right there) and Hikaru pulls away all embarrassed. Akira is sad/upset/pissed off (truly, the bitchface is impressive), especially when the other two get back from the bath, especially when Hikaru picks the far left futon and has Kiyoharu take the middle (woe!). He wakes up later to find Hikaru's futon empty - he's gone to run water over his burn. Akira patches him up and they have a conversation in the garden, presumably about Kiyoharu and Akira's jealousy. Hikaru bops Akira on the head (which is the point where I go, wait, are they already a couple?) and kisses him (Akira's kind of stunned and blushing, so maybe not?). Then they kiss again (yay!)

and we fade to the night sky... and then to Kiyoharu, who's probably not wondering where the other two have gone off to.

Oh, how do I love this circle? One of the two artists, Yagami Shiino (also known as the circle Datto!), has a wonderful sketchy style that's perfect at capturing movement and emotion.
Our first story starts with Akiralooking pretty waiting for Hikaru at the institute. They run into Waya, there's an argument and some great faces. They play (other people), leave (Waya's left behind, on the phone with... someone), and start arguing again (how in character!) on the way to where ever it is they're going. Then Hikaru says something that hits a nerve - Akira blushes, puts down his bag, and kisses him. Hikaru's understandably stunned (he thought they were fighting!), so Akira gets his emo on and walks away, hair over his eyes (angst!). But Hikaru's not having any of that! He get's this goofy grin on his face, laughs,

and runs after Akira. They talk! I don't know what about, but I imagine Hikaru's saying something along the lines of 'so, you liiiiike me. You like me!' and Akira's all blushy, and then Hikaru calls Waya (who's with Isumi), presumably to tell him about it.

Second story's not as interesting (shut up, the first one was totally action packed) - Hikaru sees a couple kissing at school and then thinks about it while he and Akira are at a cherry blossom viewing party. And then they talk! And buy drinks from a vending machine, the end.
And now it's past midnight! I have another three I want to cover, but this is taking longer then I expected. So! Let's make HikaGo day last all week, shall we?
To the books!

Date: 2009-05-06 03:44 pm (UTC)[pets doujinshi] Rin-Low and Ha-Shi-Zu/Hershey/Datto! (you know, we really should do that doujinshi wiki - if Yagami Shiino's activities in just the HikaGo doujin circles are this confusing...) are two of my favorite HikaGo circles - I've got several of their books and they're all good.
[browses Yagami Shiino selection on jpqueen] Ooooooh, she's done an Ookiku Furikabutte (Abe/Mihashi) book!
