I vaguely knew Flashpoint was coming but I didn't know they were rebooting the whole goddamn DCU.

I vote we liberate all our favorite characters and hide them somewhere safe. Maybe start our own comics universe.

I'm hoping for a non-total reboot, but quotes like:

* Together they will offer a contemporary take on the origin of the comic book industry’s premier superhero team.

and:

* Starting this summer, the publisher will re-number its entire DC Universe of titles, revamping characters such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and others from its 76-year history for a more modern and diverse 21st century.

* This was a chance to start, not at the beginning, but at a point where our characters are younger and the stories are being told for today's audience.

And:

* In the rollout of the revamped DC Universe, some titles will return, a lot of titles won't, and DC will have a wider range of books starting in September, DiDio says.

* Justice League will begin its first year with an updated secret origin reflecting DC's new initiative, giving the group a reason for coming together that it lacked when the league first appeared in 1960.

* The characters also are getting a makeover. While most of the specifics are still top secret, Lee says he worked with both staff and freelance artists to redesign costumes in a contemporary way as well as alter the physicality of many heroes and villains to modernize the DC Universe.

Don't make it easy. I can't see how they could 1) revamp/modernize origins, 2) rewrite physicalities, 3) rewrite the formation of the Justice League, and 4) rewind the timeline to just after that formation without it being a full reboot.

On one hand, I understand why they're doing it - they're trying to bring in new readers and the current DCU is an almost inaccessible mess. On the other, I don't trust them and nothing I'm reading indicates they're actually fixing anything (claims of diversity aside).

But if they put out a new Blue Beetle/Jaime title, or one for Static, or Traci 13, or Renee, I'll probably buy it :/
