Tuesday:
Also! B! And, um, anyone else with an interest! If you haven't yet, you need to check out the conversation going on at John Scalzi's blog about the OTW - It's the first real contact between the OTW and non-fans (authors, even!), and facinating to follow. For side commentary, see this post at
otw_news.
And, I've just realized I've never actually journaled about the OTW before - if you're still reading but have no idea what I'm talking about, the OTW (Organization for Trans formative Works) "is a nonprofit organization established by fans to serve the interests of fans by providing access to and preserving the history of fanworks and fan culture in its myriad forms. We believe that fanworks are transformative and that transformative works are legitimate (taken from the site, long version here).
It's an amazing undertaking (started/run by women I really admire, to boot) and I really look forward to seeing what becomes of it.
An update -
naominovik (chair of OTW board of directors, and also the author of a truly *fantastic* series of books) has posted a couple of links on her journal -
sockkpuppett musings on transformative works, with a focus on vidding (have you seen Vogue? Because you need to), and
merryish's post on the value of fanfic. Both are fantastic reads.
Sunday:
[Kingdom Hearts] Desiderata by
dual_avi (Riku/Sora). Savior, the men whisper. Legendary, beautiful, he will deliver us from this hell. Riku doesn't believe in any savior. He just wants the Heartless gone. Read this. Read this right now because it's beautiful and heartwrenching and freaking fantastic.
