It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for:
~Volume 2 of Hikaru no Go~

There's a lot happening in this chapter - new characters, tournaments, new schools, and conspiracies in the rain - what was your favorite part?

* I love Hikaru at the tournament casually admitting he's just screwing around - the patterns are so pretty, Kaga! Like planets! This is totally how I would be playing go.

* Oh, Akira, you and your complete inability to relate to your peer group. And your stalker tendencies. And your clothes - it all adds up, I think, to a decent depiction of life as a child prodigy.

* Akira's (very polite, very confused) stalking - and Hikaru shutting the window (and curtains, ha!) on him - is definitely my favorite part.

* Not so much the bullying (though realistic). We can't win on an even playing field, let's tie him up and make him play that way! That'll prove we're better then him!

Liked the games played...
Loads of character devolepment for Akira, like that, but less CD for Hikaru...
I'm with Sai on Hikaru's prejuctice against Akari playing; is a bit much, I think...

Yes - Hikaru saw all the girls playing at the tournament, he really should have figured it out by himself. Good on Sai for correcting him, though!

It's really upsetting that in this day and age, even if it was in Japan, it takes a 1000 year old ghost, with morals to match, to stand up for gender equality!

Oh, but is he chaos neutral, or chaos light?



(Okay now I'm entertaining myself with imagining a world in which Hikaru is more like Light. It's a little frightening, yet awesome.)

And now I'm imagining Light waking Sai instead of Hikaru and channeling all that crazy into achieving the Hand of God. He can meet L playing go over the internet.

Oh God. Can you imagine Light meeting Ko Yongha? The room would explode with the force of their combined egos awesomeness.

It would be amazing. Though I'm not sure Light would have the temperament to go pro - he'd be more likely to stalk the best players and smooth talk them into games in random places. Everyone would hate him and be in awe of him at the same time.

Yes. That much investment wouldn't be his style.

Man, Akira would hate his guts.

I forgot just how much Kaga totally is That Asshole Older Friend You Had In College. You spend a good portion of your time wishing he'd shut up and go the fuck away instead of laughing at your hardships -- but occasionally he'll do something that reminds you he actually does care. Kinda.

He and Ogata would unite in mutual frustrated hatred of Kuwabara. And take epic smoking breaks.

OMG YES YES YEEEEESSSSS. Ogata and Light - I could ship that.

Why is this not already an epic fanfic somewhere?

"It's as if this is some kind of- some kind of game to him," Touya spat, placing his next stone with enough force to rattle the board. "It's not about the Go, he's just collecting wins-"

"Like Pokemon," Hikaru inturrupted, rolling a stone between his fingers. There was something shaky about white's position in the upper left...

"What."

"You know, he's got to have them all. And you're just jealous he hasn't come after you yet." Ah, there - he made his move casually, feeling a little mournful - he was in the perfect position for a snapback and, the way Touya was playing today, the other boy wouldn't notice until it was too late.

"You're ridiculous," Akira sniffed, "And it's not like you've played him either."

"Please, I'd kick his ass. He's got nothing on us."

Touya's smile was quick and bright and totally made up for the shouting match they got into when he looked at the board and realized what (okay, it'd been a risky play) Hikaru had done.

I think I've seen some Ryuk Gives Hikaru The DeathNote Instead Of Light fic? Or maybe it was doujinshi. But never the other way around, hmm.

Truly, though, Light should have more board games in his life. Boy needs a hobby.

Wow, he totally is That Friend - I remembered he was kind of a dick but not how much. In an amusing when it's not directed at you sort of way.

So true. All that energy could be re-directed. Although I think that it would only occupy him for a certain amount of time, and then he'd get bored.
Unless - hmm. Unless he actually found a personal rival. I'm not sure who that'd be though. Maybe Hikaru if he was also a player.

.... wasn't there a 4 panel joke about that in HikaGo itself? And Hikaru is like: "I can't read English. *throws away DeathNote*"?
