effex It was... entertaining, I guess? I'm still trying to sort out my feelings, but I definitely went in excited and came out not so much. And I was bouncing in the parking lot after Thor and The Green Hornet, it's not like I'm hard to please!
I blame Wheadon. I mean, I know the man has a limited bag of tricks, but damn. It's like he was working off a checklist. A checklist with less witty banter then usual.
That said:
* I loved what the movie did with Bruce. I love the new actor - Ruffalo? - and I love how much character he packed in and I loved the way Tony latched on to his new Science!BFF.
* I loved everything about Natasha. Black Widow movie NOW, please.
* I liked the way the movie showed the Tony/Pepper (and I'm saying this as a Steve/Tony shipper of long standing) - as equals, as a functioning couple, and kind of adorable.
* LOL, Loki. Dude has a way of getting in over his head and then just. Not backing down.
* LOL, Wheadon, seriously. You killed someone off (STABBED THROUGH THE CHEST, NO LESS)? To give the other characters a motivating factor? How fresh for you, how original.
* That said, no way is Coulson actually dead. Pfft. I'm pretty sure he's who Maria's... High-fiving? Something? There at the end.
* Thor vs Iron Man fight scene - gratuitous or most gratuitous? You could have used that time for more/better character development, Wheadon!
* And Loki just hung out and watched? And no one found this suspicious?
* Oh man, Clint, I wish we'd gotten to spend more time with you. At least you weren't tapped for Wheadon!death.
* Where the fuck was Jane? I mean, transferred to a safe location, yadda yadda, but wouldn't you want want your expert on wormholes and Asgardians there? Where the wormhole+Asgardian threat is?
* Isn't Maria Hill latina? Wikipedia doesn't say one way or the other, but I could have sworn.
* Damn, Chris Evens was looking trim in that (ridiculous) suit. Also Renner. And Johanson. Fine butts all around, really.
In other news, Garfield!Peter Parker was actually cracking wise in the Amazing Spider-Man trailer. Be still my heart.
