Skins, series 2

I'm not sure how I feel about the second series of Skins - on one hand, I'm only three episodes in and we've had gay-bashing, amnesia and various other fallout from a subdural hematoma, hard-core stalking, and major loss, which is a bit much all at once. On the other, the acting can be fucking brilliant.

For example, I just finished Sid's episode (#3) and cried like a baby. That scene with him and Tony in the club? Amazing. Fucking amazing.

You are mostly have the same reaction I had to Skins. I rushed through it all via netflix streaming. What did you think of the ending of the first season with the song closing things out?

I liked it, I think? Sort of? It was well shot and well lip-synced (or were they actually singing? I couldn't tell) and things, I was feeling it. But then the ending hit and the song choice seemed... thematically incorrect.

That ending surprised me but it worked for me in context; so much so that I played a youtube clip of the audio on loop almost for three days after I finished the first season. But once I gained some distance I'm not exactly sure if I loved it. Points for uniqueness but I'm definitely glad they didn't start a trend.

I think they were singing but I'm not sure.

Hmm. I do like that singing's a thing in the series, though - there's always a reason for folks to be singing, but they do it on a regular basis and everyone has lovely voices.

I must have blanked all that out. When else is there singing? I know there's a moment with Jal and I remember Tony and the choir which I enjoyed. Are you going to continue on with Skins once you finish this generation?

It's happened a couple of times - there's the musical ('Osama', oh my god), there's usually live music in the backgrounds of bars/clubs, there's the choir a couple of times, there's Jal's ep in the first season... I'll have to keep an eye out, see if it's happening as often as I think it is.

I'll give the next generation a shot, at least.

Don't want to spoil but if the next generation doesn't please you then I'd suggest giving the recent generation a shot.

Oh, I enjoy how Skins uses music, I meant not having the close out group sing-a-long be a trend for every season.
