First the first time in forever, I had no pressing weekend responsibilities. So I gloriously wasted hours watching:
* All 12 episodes of Teen Wolf
* Eps 1 - 5 of Revenge
* Eps 4 + 5 of Person of Interest
* The Once Upon a Time pilot
* Eps 1 - 3 of Skins (UK), series 1
It was magical.
I like Teen Wolf enough to make me want to smack the writers and rebuild it from the ground up. There's an awesome show (or at least awesomely cheesy) somewhere under the layers of stupid. Was surprised (because I've been reading fic and reviews and rec posts an no one's mentioned it) to see the lead actor's PoC,was less surprised to see the show code him as white (maybe they will fix this next season! But probably not) [see comments]. Stile's ADHD was handled really well (as far as I could tell), Danny's sexuality was handled really well (if a little over the top), the girls were not handled as well, I occasionally wanted to punch various male characters in the face (Scott: 'So [female character] will go crazy at full moon [like the other werewolves]?' Alpha Werewolf: 'Well, she's female, so she'll go crazy twice a month.' Me: SHOW, NO. NO.).
Revenge is interesting as a very long con - I'm not really connecting to the characters, but I'm happy to watch Amanda/Emily destroy a new person every episode. Wish there was more about the people who get hurt by association.
Still not sure if I like Person of Interest - I find it super slashy, in a 'this show is about us and our (white) man-pain and our trust issues and we're basically each other's only point of social contact' sort of way, but it feels really claustrophobic and monotone. JJ Abrams (and Jonathan Nolan), be more interesting than this.
Once Upon a Time was a blast -
coffeeandink was the one to turn me on to it, so I'll point you at her review.
More on Skins later - I'mma try and work through the first two series this week.
