True, the less we see of them the more blanks there are to fill in if you are writing about them - then its just a case of whether these match with what readers have filled into those same blanks (if anything) and to make it plausible.
I went on a lot about the Nase side story elsewhere, though one of the things I think I like most about it is that it illustrates the conflict between a 'normal' teenage social life and that of a Go student. I can't tell if they are suggesting that this would be worse for girls. Nase was also depicted during the insei days as looking for a balace in this way, trying to pursuade Isumi to go to the Karaoké if I remember rightly.
