* 28 books for Black History Month, complied by
deepad. If you're feeling extra readerly-like, I'd add on any of Ishmael Reed's essay compilations (and books, and poems).
* Ooh, speaking of recommended reading - Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (a play by August Wilson) is up on Googlebooks in it's entirety!
* In case you've missed it, Amazon had more fail over the weekend. Scott Westerfeld has a summery here, John Scalzi talks more about it here. I posted a list of alternate, independent online booksellers after the last round of fail, you can check it out here. I've been doing all my buying since through Better World Books and highly recommend them.
* There's fuckery going down with the UK's Equality Bill, the House of Lords, and the pope -
rm has a bunch of related links here,
the_future_modernes has a very succinct post (and more links) on the matter here.
* Both
halfamoon and
14valentines are up and running - you should check them out! And a reminder -
hh_kink is still running.
* Photos of the Whirlpool Galaxy. So shiny.
* The FIXIT Magazine for Comics and Art project on Kickstarter looks interesting.
* Music!
ETA with more book stuff:
* Tobias Buckhull talks about the latest Amazonfail in detail and gives a great break down on eBook pricing. So does K.T. Bradford.
* The Clarksworld winners are up! You can read the tied winners, From the Lost Diary of TreeFrog7 by Nnedi Okorafor and The Radiant Car Thy Sparrows Drew by Catherynne M. Valente on the website. Exciting!
