Today is the 37th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade! If you've got a moment, you can read about this (incredibly important) ruling here and here. If you've got several moments I encourage you to read about the Stupak Amendment (part of the current health bill) which, if passed, would actually restrict women's access to abortion and other health services.
If you've got lots of moments, I've got some music for you! Planned Parenthood of North Texas put on a fantastic anniversary concert in Dallas last night - the venue (The Loft) was great, the organization efficient, and the bands really amazing.
First up was Something Fabulous and the lovely Jenna Sky (not actually a band). I was late and didn't get to see them (woe!) but I am sure they were great.
I have such a crush it is ridiculous.
Next were The Happy Bullets who I really liked - they were so geeky and happy and I really like their style. I'll be buying their album.
And then the Young and Brave. A solid performance! The girl has a beautiful, ethereal voice which is sadly not used in this song (which is my favorite) - you should youtube it :D
And Giggle Party. I can't find a video that captures the sheer manic energy this group had - there was bouncing, there were balloons, there was silly string and confetti and cupcakes. There music was good but what really sold me was how much freaking fun they were having (up on stage and down in the audience and on top of the amps and...).
And finally Girl in a Coma. Folks, these women can rock - their performance blew me away. Fancy guitar work, high energy, and that gorgeous, gorgeous voice. Another album I'll definitely be purchasing.
