Summer in the City
Jun. 17th, 2011 12:59 pm* I hate Texas summers - last year was miserable and 2011 is shaping up to be even hotter. Today's supposed to be 102F and the next three months will be in the 95F-110F range and it makes me want to cry. TOO HOT.
* It's not all doom and gloom, though! I took Wednesday off because
cimorene was passing through on her way to the great frozen north and we got some quality museuming in. The Dallas Museum of Art is always fun to visit (and lovely dim and cool), but my favorite part was the Sightings installation next door at the Nasher. It's a slightly pretentious name for a room filled with giant balloons but omg, so much fun. Claustrophobic and disorientating, but fun. The musical staircase was also very cool.
* I was talking to a friend yesterday and he said he'd found a possible job for me - he's friends with a manager at a swanky Dallas hotel and they're looking for someone to do customer service. My friend talked me up and now the manager wants to meet me. I'm torn - I've got some customer service experience, but not in the hospitality industry. And it's not design work. But it probably pays more*, is closer to my apartment, and wouldn't be [current company], you know? Except it feels like a step off my chosen career path. And I'd only be there six months, if the move to Chicago works out. But it'd be more money and less stress (probably).
I told them I'd take the interview, so we'll see how that goes.
* Yes, my current salary is so far below the norm for in-house designers that hotel customer service would be a step up. I don't know what I'm still doing here.
* I've started on my next book: Coming of the Terraphiles by Michael Moorcock. It's a Doctor Who novel, set early in Series 5, and so far it's very... silly.
* Our new roommate (we'll call her Z) is settling in well, though her cat Frankie has yet to come out from under the dresser. Which is fine, Susie's enjoying the illusion of a cat-free apartment.
* The puppies keep growing! I'm heading to my parent's place for Father's Day, it'll be nice to see them in person. Apparently my sister's been teaching them to swim.
