* So Neil Gaiman has started his own round of fail, which is exciting. I have been a big fan for a very long time (and also I strongly associate him with my dad) and, while I knew he'd screw up eventually (everybody does, after all), I had hoped he'd acquit himself with grace. Fucking hell.
* Sonoma County CA separates elderly gay couple and sells their possessions. Because, among other people, our culture still hates people who are gay and/or elderly. Warning: Chances are good this will make you cry or break things.
* In separate, less heartbreaking news - the wholesome, heartwarming story of a girl and a fish.
* New equations say that every black hole could contain another universe (aka Reality is always stranger than fiction or, Science, Fuck Yeah).

I have been cooking like a great cooking thing the past week:
Sunday I decided that I was definitely gonna try 1 Chicken, 17 Healthy Meals, $26 Bucks, No Mayo so I bought myself a bird (okay, two birds - they were on sale for .88 cents a pound. I have no idea what I'm going to do with the second one), brought it home, and roasted (recipie) the heck out of it (with only a little bit of whinging).

DELICIOUS. It came out just right and I'll tell you what - there is nothing like properly roasting a chicken to make me feel all grown.
I also did up a stir fry (chopped beef, onion, and snow peas in Worcester sauce and mustard) for Monday's lunch and made my breakfast sandwiches for the week.

Sandwiches are fried egg, mustard, sliced turkey and provolone cheese on ciabatta rolls, wrapped in plastic wrap, bagged and frozen. They are tasty but I haven't figured out the best reheating method yet - leave it in the plastic wrap and the top stays soft but the bottom gets soggy, wrap it in paper towel (sans plastic wrap) and the bottom is fine but the top gets chewy/stale. Hmmm.
Yesterday was step two in the All Chicken All The Time plan - I made up a batch of the Chicken Picadillo with mashed black beans, which was fantastic. I forgot the salsa and ended up using 1/3 cup of V8, which turned out fine, and chopped the meat up fine instead of processing it. Next time I'll make sure to have all the ingredients ready to go before I start - I was chopping and adding things while the (already cooked) chicken was in the pan, which dried it out a bit.
I also made chicken stock with the leftover chicken carcass and pan juice and baked me some crunchy breadsticks. I am especially proud of the breadsticks - I have a hard time getting yeast breads to rise properly (no solar hands for me!) and these turned out just right.
Tonight is White Chicken Chili and probably some kind of cookie. Maybe chocolate spice, mmm.
