Like Ponies, or World Peace

Today is a massive link dump day, of the Oh, Humanity (this is why we can't have nice things) variety - watch this space for updates and eventual organization.
stoney321's Morman and Polygamy tags: Stoney's an ex-Morman and an excellent resource for those interested in learning more about that particular order - most recently, she's been running in-depth commentary on the FLDS/YFZ Ranch bust here in Texas. Scary (really, really scary) and heaps informative.
It's still Sexual Abuse Awareness Month (barely; I am *so* late in putting these up...):
Rachel Edidin's 2007 series of S.A.A.M. posts: A year old and still pertinent, Rachel writes on 'Writing sexual violence', rape is rape (no matter the gender), same sex assault, and many more (she's writing as a comic book fan and uses comic books as reference, but the essays should be accessible to folks with little knowledge of the genre). Some of these are hard to read through, but very much with the deep-thought making.
Girl-Wonder.org's list of S.A.A.M. resources and information.
Wanna be more than a pretty girl by
katarik: "It's not a fucking woman's job to be consumed and invaded and spat out so that some fucking man can evolve". Not directly S.A.A.M. related, but it *is* a fantastic little post on sexism, racism, and homophobia.
And I can pretend it segues into the next post, like so:
Baby-stepping away from racism: A guide for white people by
paradox_dragon: "I am by no means an expert, but I speak from intense reflection and personal experience and with all goodwill. Some of the things I have to say here may be very hard for you to hear and harder to implement, but I ask you to please consider what I have to say and feel completely free to ask questions". lt's so *hard* (and I'm saying this for myself (whom I consider to be an open-minded, groovy sort of individual) as much as anyone else) to come to terms with your own prejudices, much less attempt to change them. Reading this post (an implementing some of it!) is a good first step. I've got tons more links on this topic, if anyone wants 'em.
And for those caring about American politics,
Say it loud, I'm bitter and I'm proud by
likeawoman: "we are bitter. we are left behind. we are frustrated. we are afraid and out of hope." A beautiful, beautiful post on Obama, the working class, and hope. If your only acquaintance with Obama's speech in San Francisco is FOX News, well. The man did not say what you think he said.
