* It's still absurdly hot in Dallas (projected high of 108 today, aw yeah), but the weather report assures me it'll break soon. We're starting to get the storms that indicate Summer's bumping up against Fall - towering thunderheads that blow up out of nowhere, rain down much needed water, and abandon us to muggy afternoons.
* I saw Attack the Block again on Friday and it was just as good the second time around - I know its US (+ Toronto) release is frustratingly limited, but if it's playing near you I highly recommend going <3 (
nepenthe, it's playing in Tempe! /hinthint)
* I finished John Steinbeck's Travels with Charley on the bus this morning. It was an engaging roadtrip through (white, mostly) 1960 America up until he reached New Orleans, where the narrative dissolves into violence, pain, and overt racism, both others' (he sees the 'cheerleaders' harass Ruby Bridges and her classmates) and his own (white, Northern, liberal, 'I'm not racist,' etc). So, uh, warnings for that if you ever read the book.
* I watched the new episode of Doctor Who last night and, on one hand, yay! My show and my characters are back! On the other, goddamn it Moffat. I know you're a sexist asshat but usually you do a better job of not being obvious about it (possibly I'm lying to myself about this). And Nazi Germany as your backdrop, really? You couldn't think of a war criminal who hadn't committed genocide in living memory? And ugh, the utter lack of examination in Melody's regeneration from a black woman to a white one. A black woman who's BFFs with the Ponds but we've never seen.
I did enjoy the Doctor's hologram galleria of guilt, though.
* Still working on X-men fic - mostly on the bus to and from work, which is slow going. I need to take it to a coffee shop or something and pound it out but, y'all, it's hot. The 2.5 blocks between my apartment and Starbucks is... okay, putting it like that kind of highlights my ridiculousness.
