The Totally Epic HikaGo Reread - Vol. 5

~Volume 5 of Hikaru no Go~
Chapters 35 - 43
I am ~officially~ moving Epic Post time to 3pm (US Central) because, honestly. At noon I am either thinking about lunch, going to get lunch, or eating lunch and there is not a lot of time for HikaGo amongst all that lunchiness.

I am intensely amused that Akira played, what, one game? Against Hikaru/Sai and could still identify his go when played over the internet. Granted, Sai has a bunch of old-school habits, but still.
What was your favorite part of the volume?

This is the thrue begin on Hikaru's career in Go.

Most definitely the scene outside the cybercafé. The detail in the expressions in the manga say so much without need for dialog and the colors in the same scene in the anime are beautiful. I find an immense poignancy here as its a situation with no simple solution. When I first read the manga, it was the way that the end of this scene is drawn out that made me start to think that there was more to the Hikaru-Akira relationship that just Go (I hadn't discovered slash fanfic yet!). They look at one another as though they matter to one another.

Hikaru imagining that insei are all clones of Kishimoto playing with super-serious expressions.

Saddest part:
Sai acknowleding Mitani's loss when Hikaru leaves the go club.

There are also one or two great clothes moments!

Re: grabs
There's something interesting about that last screencap, the overhead shot of the go boards. Do you mind if I use some of these for icons?
Re: grabs
How do you like my new avatar?
It's from a later ep, but I really liked Sai in the snow, so I couldn't resist uploading it now|!
Re: grabs
I don't know how to make moving icons and guess it isn't easy.
BTW are you screencapping from DVDs or streaming?

Re: grabs
There are quite a few background shots in these intense colors - might make neat wallpaper.
Re: grabs
Bit small maybe.
Need to fiddle in photoshop with it...
I'll see what I can do
Bit bizzy right now...

I strongly suspect that that is where Akira goet his hair cut from. The poor dear....
Re: grabs
For the Hikago anime, I read that they'd chosen a color for each character and decided that the eyebrows would always be visible through the hair (unlike in the manga). It took me a while to get used to Akira having green hair - cracked me up the first time I saw episode 1. As for his haircut, it looks like one that a parent could do themselves, provided they could cut straight and the child held still...

Re: grabs
I do actually think the style suits Akira and with it cut like that he can swish it around dramatically!
