The Midwest is Flooding
Folks, Iowa is flooding. So's Michigan. And the Federal Government is doing nothing.
I lived my last year of high school and all my years at college in Iowa. Many of my friends still live there, or have family who do. One of my best friends lives in Cedar Rapids and just called to tell me she's had to leave her apartment - it sits on a floodplain and is going under if the river crests again. She's back with her parents but still, if the flooding had been a bit worse earlier in the week, she would have lost most of her things. And there would have been no one official to help her.
As an added bonus, 90% of my extended family lives in or around Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was was up there the week before A-kon, even.
Everyone I know is doing okay, so far, but I'm stuck in fucking Texas and there's nothing I can do except write my Congresspeople and ask them for a Federal response. Please, if you're in the US, consider doing the same.
