How unexpected

You guys. YOU GUYS. The Green Hornet was AWESOME. I mean! Seth Rogen! He is a ruiner of things! But he didn't ruin this, it was too awesome. Probably because of the amazingness that is Jay Chou (the imdb says it was John Cho, what the hell, that is incorrect).

Is Seth Rogen Britt Ried an overgrown child with manpain, daddy issues, and a serious entitlement problem? Sure is! But Kato does not put up with that shit, what do you think he is, a fucking sidekick? No! He is the brains, muscle, and good looks on the team and the movie admits it. Britt is there to pay for shit and have a huge crush.

The movie is also incredibly gay. Not that Britt deserves Kato.

And Lenore! Played by Cameron Diaz and her fantastic smile! I don't want to spoil too much, but she's awesome and more than a love interest and neither of the boys deserve her (though I wouldn't say no to Lenore/Kato). I just wish she'd had more screen time. Maybe in the next one. I hope there's a next one.

Basically I spent most of the movie expecting it to fail and it didn't (it wasn't perfect but omg, I'm in no place to analyze). Instead there was fighting and shit exploding and sweet cars and hijinks and masks and kickin' outfits. I am over the moon.

Interesting! I had no plans to see this movie because of Seth Rogan, but this makes me want to watch it now.

No lie, there's a ten minute scene where Kato beats his ass for being an overbearing, privileged asshole. It was beautiful.

I honestly didn't think it was possible. I'm still not sure why we went! And it might just be they way it surpassed my very low expectations, but I had a blast.

Meh, really? I'll admit I'm very easy to please when given a specific formula, but I had roommate D with me (who's not particularly geeky and very critical) and she liked it too [hold second opinion up like shield].

It's not a comic book movie! It's based off an old radio show and an old tv show (with Bruce Lee) based of of said radio show. Results in fewer capes.

Heh. Well Andy Diggle and Roger Ebert both hated it, and while both have their misses they're generally trustworthy when it comes to taste.

I'm pretty easy to please too though! See also: The Cape.

[reads Ebert's review] Hmm. See, he doesn't touch on my favorite parts - how badass Kato is, how smart Lenore is, how there were a million ways to fail (with race, with class, with gender) and it avoided most of them. And I enjoyed the multiple fights/explosions and thought Chudnofsky had plenty of character (as a psychotic mob boss going through a midlife crisis), so.

Also he gave 4.5 stars to Blue Valentine, the other movie I saw this week, his opinion is invalid. That movie was terrible.

I have no idea what Blue Valentine even is. I don't think I want to know. I generally trust your opinion more than just anyone's. :D

This is a very unexpected review! Because I saw the trailer a few weeks ago and thought, "holy shit that looks terrible, KEEP IT AWAY."

and now I'm excited for it! even if I don't go see it, having more awesome in the world is always a good thing, and frankly I'd just like for Hollywood and the general populace to understand that you can make an entertaining popcorn flick like this WITHOUT being massively faily!

There are MANY LULZ. It is a cheesy campfest, won't lie. And Jay Chou was the whole movie, basically. He owned it.

Well, it depends on your idea of terrible - if cheesy action movies with a tacked together plot aren't your cuppa, you probably won't enjoy it. But if you do (and I do, omg I do), it is the best kind of brain candy.

No, I love that kind of thing! I just hate hate HAAAAAAAAAAATE when I get yanked out of the movie because of gratuitous fail when it could so easily have been pure fun, you know?
